DESCRIPTION

Imodium Lingual 2 mg is an anti-diarrhoeal medicine indicated for the short-term treatment of acute transient diarrhoea in adults and children over 15 years of age. It is a treatment that complements hygienic and dietary measures.

Its active substance is loperamide hydrochloride, at a dose of 2 mg per oral lyophilisate. The other ingredients are gelatine, aspartam (E951), mint flavouring, sodium bicarbonate and mannitol.

Contraindications

This anti-diarrhoeal medicine must not be used in the event of a known allergy to one of its constituents, or if you suffer from chronic intestinal or colonic disease, particularly during acute attacks of haemorrhagic rectocolitis, or in the event of phenylketonuria due to the presence of aspartam.

Imodium Lingual 2 mg should not be taken in the event of fever, vomiting, blood or mucus in the stools, or if your diarrhoea occurs during antibiotic treatment (risk of severe damage to the colon). If these same symptoms occur during treatment with Imodium Lingual 2 mg, you should discontinue treatment and consult your doctor immediately.

It is also necessary to stop treatment and consult your doctor immediately if there is no improvement after 2 days of treatment, in the event of constipation or significant swelling of the stomach, or in the event of intense thirst or a sensation of a dry tongue. These signs indicate the onset of dehydration, due to significant fluid loss as a result of diarrhoea. Your doctor will then decide whether rehydration is necessary, which can be administered orally or intravenously.

If you suffer from liver disease, you should seek your doctor's advice, as medical supervision during treatment is necessary.

Diarrhoea leads to a loss of fluids and mineral salts. It is important to rehydrate with plenty of fluids (salty or sweet) to compensate for the fluid losses caused by diarrhoea (you should drink at least 2 litres).

When it comes to eating in the event of diarrhoea, you should avoid raw vegetables, fruit, green vegetables, spicy dishes and iced foods or drinks in favour of grilled meats and rice.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicine, even if obtained without a prescription. Imodium Lingual 2 mg contains loperamide, as do other medicines. Therefore, they must not be taken in combination with each other, so as not to exceed the maximum recommended doses.

This medicine should only be used during pregnancy on the advice of your doctor. If you discover that you are pregnant during treatment, you should contact your doctor as soon as possible, as only he or she will be able to judge whether it is necessary to continue treatment.

Breast-feeding remains possible during brief treatment with Imodium Lingual 2 mg. In general, always ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine, especially if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Imodium Lingual 2 mg may sometimes cause slight transient drowsiness or dizziness, which may be dangerous when using certain machines and driving vehicles.

Packaging : box of 12 orodispersible tablets

USE ADVICE

This medicine is intended for adults and children aged 15 and over.

The recommended dosage is to start with 2 lyophilisates in a single dose (i.e. 4 mg of loperamide).

If the diarrhoea persists, 1 additional lyophilisate may be taken after each loose stool.

However, never exceed 6 lyophilisates per day, and never exceed 2 days' treatment.

The oral lyophilisate should not be chewed, but should be melted on the tongue to obtain a rapid effect.

It can also be left to dissolve completely in a small amount of water before drinking immediately.

In the event of an overdose, you should consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
