DESCRIPTION

Contalax is an over-the-counter laxative in tablet form. It contains bisacodyl. This medicine is indicated for the short-term treatment of occasional constipation and is a stimulant laxative.

Precautions with Contalax stimulant laxative

This laxative should not be used by pregnant or breast-feeding women.

In the case of galactose intolerance, total lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome (rare hereditary diseases), patients should not take Contalax.

If you are allergic to bisacodyl or any of the other ingredients (lactose, modified starch (Starx 1500), colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate, cellulose acetate phthalate, ethyl phthalate) contained in this medicine.

Contalax should not be taken if you have a disease of the intestine and/or colon, such as rectocolitis, Crohn's disease or intestinal obstruction, or if you suffer from severe dehydration.

The undesirable effects of Contalax are a risk of diarrhoea and abdominal pain, particularly in subjects suffering from irritable bowel syndrome, hypokalaemia: a decrease in the level of potassium in the blood and abnormal colouring of the urine without the kidney being affected.

Packaging : box of 30 gastro-resistant tablets.

USE ADVICE

Take 1 to 2 Contalax tablets with a glass of water in the evening at bedtime, to take effect the next morning.

Treatment of constipation with this laxative tablet should be of short duration: 8 to 10 days maximum, and should be accompanied by dietary measures.

If diarrhoea occurs, the dose should be reduced. If, on the other hand, the symptoms persist or worsen (fever, abdominal pain), you should consult a doctor.

For children over 6 years of age, the dose should be limited to 1 tablet.
